Girls Incorporated of Meriden is always looking for qualified staff to help fulfill our mission of inspiring all girls to be Strong, Smart and Bold. Below is a list of part-time employment opportunities that may be available at any given time within the organization:
Program Facilitator
Purpose of the Job: To work collaboratively with the Program team to ensure the successful delivery of the assigned program(s) that reflect the goals and mission of our organization
and ultimately inspire all of our girls to be Strong, Smart, and Bold.
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Program Director to create, facilitate, and implement programs, based on the sessions pre-determined theme.
- Create a safe, fun, hands-on, minds-on environment for all girls to learn, utilizing Girls Inc.’s national program materials in planning empowering and developmentally appropriate programs based on the theme of the session.
- Serve as a positive role model for girls. Communicate appropriately and professionally in the spirit of Girls Inc.’s mission. Demonstrate respectful communication, healthy relationships, and positive leadership at all times.
- Communicate with parents/guardians and family members as needed, informing them of girls’ achievements and challenges as they are presented.
- Provides feedback to Program Director regarding program’s effectiveness, participation, and outcomes.
- Communicates and coordinates activities with other staff as needed.
Other Responsibilities:
- Ensure overall safety, cleanliness and functioning of Girls Inc.'s facilities, including support for some/all of the following:
- Ensuring designated program space is clean and organized, and prepared for the girl’s arrival.
- Ensure working condition, safety, and integrity of Girls Inc.'s computers and technology.
- Daily preparation of the work space, and completion of clean-up following activities.
GIRLS INC. PROFESSIONALISM
- Participate in periodic assessment of own performance, develops own goals and objectives. Take advantage of training and other developmental and professional growth opportunities.
- Participate in all staff and team meetings to share ideas and concerns, and works collaboratively with staff to insure agency goals and objectives are met.
- Any and all duties as assigned by the Program Director and others as directed Executive Director.
General Qualifications:
- Entering post-secondary school and/or on- year direct experience working with children post High School.
- Some experience working with children.
- Some experience facilitating and/or lesson planning.

SUMMER EMPLOYEMENT
Lifeguard
POSITION SUMMARY:
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes safety and engagement in accordance with Girls Inc. of Central Connecticut policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
2. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Girls Inc. of Central Connecticut policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
3. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the campers, participants and other staff.
4. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
5. Maintains accurate records as required by Girls Inc. of Central Connecticut and/or the state and local Health Department code.
6. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
7. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
8. Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action.
9. Attends all staff meetings and training as required.
10. Assists Lead Swim Instructor as needed and directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum age of 16.
2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
3. Current Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.
4. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
5. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with Red Cross standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
2. Must be able to remain alert.
3. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
4. Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
5. Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
6. Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
7. Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and
loud situations.
Camp Facilitator
Purpose of the Job: To work collaboratively with the Summer Camp team to ensure the successful delivery of the seasonal program that reflect the goals and mission of our organization
